Who we are
Tal-Massar Winery is a cherished family-owned boutique winery nestled in the historic village of Għarb, Gozo. Our story began in 1934, when gozitan immigrant Carmelo Hili returned from America and first founded the winery. Nowadays, third-generation vintner Anthony Hili and his wife Marisa, continue preserving the winery's legacy into the 21st century.
Our vines are planted in terraced lime calcareous soil which limits their productivity, but ensures the best quality grapes. In fact, we only produce twenty thousand bottles of wine from a single harvest. Every year, we produce a range of IĠT and DOK Gozo wine from grape varieties such as the indigenous Maltese Girgentina, Vermentino, Nero d'Avola, Syrah, and Merlot.

Book your Wine Tasting Session
If you wish to taste our unique wines and learn more about our viticulture, kindly book one of our wine tasting sessions. We recommend you book in advance as seating is limited. The price is €45/person† and the session takes around 2 hours. Wine tasting sessions are hosted on our private estate in the country-side of Għarb, and are held by the winemaker Anthony, his wife Marisa, or his son.
We give generous servings of wine for our participants. Three different wines will be served, and a special dessert wine by the glass. These will be paired with a cheese and salami platter, as well as Maltese bread, galletti (traditional water biscuits), and a homemade sun-dried tomato paste.
